Ohio State/Florida Game Recap

Florida 24 - Ohio State 17
Everbank Field
January 2, 2011

UF's Offense: This was the best game Charlie Weis has called all year. Sure it was a little vanilla and they didn't run very many plays thanks to their special teams, but Weis really kept Ohio State off balance with a good mix of run and pass. It wasn't a flashy gameplan, but it was effective. I think I speak for all Gator fans when I say we're really going to miss Charlie next season. Seems like the offense finally clicked in his final game. That's a shame, but I think he's going to have a lot of success at Kansas. That's a tough job to turn down. Kansas is one of those few jobs that when they come calling, you HAVE to listen. They have a ton of resources and with Weis' brilliant offensive mind I think they'll be able to compete for a Big 12 title in about two years. I was quite surprised that none of the players carried him off the field today. I guess his weight and bad hip had a lot to do with that. There's nothing wrong with a quiet, classy exit, I guess. I also agree with Muschamp's statement after the game that a NFL team will give John Brantley a shot. I think he's a lock for the second round and could possibly work his way into the late first round with a good combine. I think he'd be a very good fit with the Bucs. Brantley looked very sharp today completing 12/16 for 132 yards. He showed a lot of poise in the pocket and when he got hit he didn't get injured which shows a lot to the NFL scouts that he doesn't get injured every time he gets hit hard. Don't worry about some of the balls he threw that fluttered or hung in the air a little too long, arm strength can be coached. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

UF's Defense: Something wasn't right. Something was missing. Oh yeah, it was Dominique Easley's nine offside/neutral zone/personal foul penalties. Without Easley they managed to record six sacks, which based on the past two seasons, is like a bajillion. To save time and money, let's just go ahead and scratch out Troy Smith's name on all the "Honk If You Sacked Troy Smith" bumper stickers and replace it with Braxton Miller.

OSU's Offense: Hey, chin up, Buckeyes! You gained 217 more total yards than the last time you played Florida. Baby steps. If you keep practicing, drink milk, and get 8 hours of sleep each day, you might gain over 300 yards against the Gators one day. Until then, you just keep dreaming big and you can achieve anything!

OSU's Defense: Still slow.

Player Of The Game: Caleb Sturgis. He kicked the shit out of that 17-yard field goal.

Quote Of The Game: "The thing I'm most proud of is we won and I'm done with school. No more school for the rest of my life." -Chris Rainey. I said the same thing in 5th grade after my team won a game of kickball.

Notes: Urban Meyer was in attendance. He was dressed in the Brutus The Buckeye costume...Florida picked up three fat guys around Jacksonville before the game to help field an offensive line...Chris Rainey immediately picked up his phone after the game and asked every girl in his contacts if they'd be interested in sleeping with a Gator Bowl Champion. Twelve said yes...Muschamp says he plans to ask ESPN to hand over the video evidence of him smiling so that he can destroy it...Ohio State tight end Tyler Moeller was offended by Florida players calling him a "Big Ten football player" during the game...Since the game was sponsored by TaxSlayer, anyone who watched the game can write it off since watching both of these teams was an act of charity...Today's attendance looked about right.
